Advanced Spanish focuses on developing and improving conversational skills including listening to others and responding, reading and understanding written content, and improving confidence in your Spanish language skills.
There are many reasons why intermediate students are hesitant to move to advanced Spanish. They might feel that they are not ready, that they won’t understand the instructors, and that current students are “so much better” than they are and will resent their taking the classes. While these fears are understandable, they form a barrier to your advancement in learning Spanish, increasing your confidence, and moving toward conversational fluency.
Rationale for Taking Advanced Spanish:
Moving from intermediate to advanced Spanish shifts learners from “getting by” to expressing nuanced ideas with precision and confidence. At the advanced level, students refine grammar, expand vocabulary, and develop control over tone, register, and cultural context. This progression enables them to participate in complex conversations, interpret authentic materials, and communicate more naturally and effectively in real-world situations — turning functional language skills into true fluency.
Advanced level Spanish is designed to help learners master more advanced grammatical concepts and to advance their conversational Spanish capabilities.
