Language Education Archives

SW Florida Spanish works to preserve access to valuable language-learning programs and the educational materials that support them.

For decades, Annenberg supported landmark video-based language courses that taught Spanish and French through immersion, story, conversation, and culture rather than traditional drills. These programs aired on public television and later lived on as free resources through the Annenberg Learner website, where they quietly built a devoted following of students, teachers, and lifelong learners around the world.

On July 1, 2026, Annenberg Learner’s website ceased operations, taking these programs offline. Anticipating the shutdown, SW Florida Spanish stepped in to preserve public access to all three series — Destinos, Nuevos Destinos, and French in Action — so this material could keep doing what it’s always done best: teaching language through story. Since launching, these archives have drawn hundreds of visitors daily, with Destinos alone bringing in more than 700 a day. If you loved these courses the first time around, or you’re discovering them for the first time, the videos and supporting learning materials remain available for continued study.

Destinos

Nuevos Destinos

French in Action

Destinos

A telenovela-style introduction to Spanish that follows Raquel Rodríguez, a Los Angeles attorney, as she unravels a decades-old family mystery across Spain, Mexico, and Argentina. A beloved classic since its debut in the early 1990s.

Nuevos Destinos

The sequel to Destinos, picking up years later as Raquel and Ángela navigate a new inheritance dispute. Designed as a review and extension course for students moving beyond beginner Spanish.

French in Action

Yale’s celebrated French course led by the late Pierre Capretz, following two students, Mireille and Robert, through an immersive story set in Paris. A landmark in language pedagogy since the late 1980s.
